What is Ceramic coating for cars?

A ceramic coating for cars is a liquid solution composed primarily of silica and titanium dioxide that is applied to the paint of a vehicle to create a protective barrier layer. The coating forms a chemical bond with the paint and creates a hard, durable layer that can resist scratches, oxidation, UV rays, and other types of damage. Once applied and cured, ceramic coatings create a hydrophobic effect that causes water to bead and roll off the surface, making it easier to clean and maintain.

Benefits and why should you get it done?

Ceramic coatings are typically made of a combination of inorganic and organic compounds, such as silicon dioxide (SiO2) and titanium dioxide (TiO2). These compounds create a highly durable and heat-resistant barrier that can last for several years, depending on the quality of the coating and the care and maintenance given to the vehicle. This offers a variety of benefits like:

  •  Creates a protective barrier that can resist scratches, oxidation, UV rays, and other types of damage.

  • Hydrophobic effect that causes water to bead and roll off the surface, making it easier to clean and maintain.
  • Improves the overall appearance of the car by giving a glossy, smooth finish

  • Can help to preserve the value of the car by protecting the paint from damage

  • Can provide a UV protection for the interior of the car by blocking UV rays

How is it done?

Ceramic coatings are typically applied by professional car detailers or car detailing studios or auto body shops, and the process typically involves thoroughly cleaning and prepping the surface of the car before applying the coating.

Once the thorough cleaning is done, the detailing process starts where imperfections like swirl marks, scratches, and hard water stains etc are removed from the paint.

Detailing the vehicle before the ceramic coating process is done to make sure that the protective layer of ceramic only locks in the best look of the paint and not any impurities.

After the detailing is done properly, ceramic coating is directly applied to the car using an applicator and a small microfibre. The application is done in small patches and excess ceramic is wiped off using a microfibre cloth.
When the entire car is coated, it is left for a few hours so that it can get cured and form a bond with the paint of the car. Some professional car detailing studios offer UV curing treatment, which helps the coating to settle in less time.

Why should you get it done on your car?

Ceramic coatings create a hydrophobic effect that causes water to bead and roll off the surface, making it easier to clean and maintain. These properties help you to maintain the new look of your car’s paint.

It is important to note that ceramic coatings are a long term solution but they are not permanent and will eventually wear off, but they offer a long-lasting and effective protection for the car’s paint. Additionally, regular maintenance and washing is required to keep the coating in optimal condition.
